Fitness Method and Philosophy

Like most trainers, I believe that physical fitness is a fundamental need of every human being. Still, I also know that reaching fitness goals is rarely just about gaining reps or losing pounds – it is about a sustained sense of purpose and progress. I bring this philosophy to training my clients at all life stages and fitness goals. In my sessions in Union Square (or at your home or office gym, or remotely), I draw from many different modalities. I can help you build power and expand your scope of physical abilities through an innovative blend of Functional Training, Calisthenics, Gymnastics, Yoga, and Pilates Mat. I also specialize in weight, strength, circuit, mobility, and functional training, as well as work with the Olympic rings, Kettlebells, Conditioning, High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Coordination, and Proprioception/Balance Training. Together, we can design a workout and discuss healthy nutrition habits that will motivate you and maximize your body’s potential. I aim to increase your determination, resilience, and self-confidence while helping you to get the body you have always wanted.

Background

I have a very client-oriented approach to strength & conditioning. I started my training career at Equinox, working my way to a tier 3+ Equinox over the course of four years, all the while earning dozens of certifications. Since then, for the last 8 years, I have trained independently as a NASM-certified personal trainer. I have trained men, women, and children with different experience levels and across age ranges from as young as 4 to as old as 80. In evaluating and implementing a client's abilities and goals, I employ a wide range of modalities and methods, including barbell/dumbbell/kettlebell and functional training (including calisthenics), gymnastic rings, mobility/flexibility/balance training, and HIIT training. From continuing education, coaches, co-workers, physical therapists, and other mentors (not the least of whom are clients I have trained), I treat everything as an opportunity to learn and improve.

Some of the certifications I also hold are in or involve Kettlebell Training, Trigger Point Therapy, Precision Nutrition 1, Anatomy Trains, Floor-to-Core, and Progressions & Regressions.

Injuries + Aging

Because having good alignment to prevent injuries is a major facet of my fit-losophy, I love working with people who have injuries and older folks. I pride myself on my ability to figure out physical limitations and prescribe exercises that target them. My training method is great for anyone who has injuries or would like to prevent them.

“Over My Dad Body!”

For new dads, keeping up with a fitness regimen has never been more challenging. It’s also never been more important. On days when you are looped in an endless cycle of burping, diapering, and sleeplessness, working out may be the only true outlet. Lack of time can require becoming inventive about maximizing workouts (abridged gym sessions, stroller lunges, and plank walks while the baby’s sleeping). My fitness series “Over my Dad Body” is specially designed for moms and dads (and grandparents) to stay in shape and prevent parenting-related injuries.

Sessions

The initial session involves a 7-part Functional Movement Screen (FMS) to assess your starting point, functionality, and abilities, allowing us to set targeted training goals. Sessions last one hour and are typically held in Union Square. I can also travel to your home or office gym (pricing negotiable). For one-on-one training, I offer single sessions for $150, as well as packages of 5 sessions (for $145 each), 10 sessions (for $140 each), or 20 sessions (for $135 each), all at discounted rates. Contact me for rates for groups of 2 or more. Let’s get started!
